US charges five linked to Russian intelligence over targeted killing plots
US federal authorities charged five men over Russian-directed assassination plots, while a German court convicted a man over a parcel bomb scheme tied to Moscow.
United States federal prosecutors have unsealed charges against five men associated with Russian intelligence services for conspiring to commit assassinations and sabotage across North America and Europe. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, the suspects recruited individuals to surveil and target people supporting Ukraine, including conducting a June 2024 attack in Prague. The accused individuals remain at large.
Simultaneously, a regional court in Stuttgart, Germany, sentenced a Ukrainian national for his role in a Russian-directed plan to ship incendiary packages. German prosecutors established that the scheme involved dispatching parcels containing tracking devices and car parts from Germany to Ukraine via courier services, intending to undermine public security.
