US charges five alleged Russian operatives over global assassination plots
US authorities charged five alleged Russian operatives over a global plot targeting Ukraine supporters, while a German court convicted a man in a connected parcel bomb scheme.
Federal prosecutors in the United States have unsealed an indictment against five alleged Russian intelligence operatives accused of managing a global assassination and sabotage network. American authorities state that the suspects recruited individuals worldwide to spy on and eliminate supporters of Ukraine across Europe and North America. The operation has also been connected to a June 2024 attack in Prague, though all five accused individuals currently remain at large.
Concurrently, a regional court in Stuttgart, Germany, convicted a Ukrainian national for participating in a Russian-directed parcel bomb plot. According to German prosecutors, the conspiracy involved shipping explosive packages containing tracking devices across Europe to disrupt logistics networks and undermine public security.
