An investigation highlights US Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle's involvement in securing a $6 billion Albanian gas contract for Greek firm Aktor.

A report by The Wall Street Journal has drawn attention to the actions of US Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle and energy lobbyist Christos Marafatsos regarding a major regional energy contract. According to the investigation, Guilfoyle met with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama in Tirana in March 2026 alongside Marafatsos and representatives of the Greek infrastructure group Aktor.

One month after the meeting, Aktor secured a $6 billion agreement to supply natural gas to Albania. The report highlights potential conflicts of interest, noting Marafatsos served as an advisor to the ambassador while simultaneously representing private energy entities. The findings have raised concerns regarding the overlap between diplomatic representation, commercial lobbying, and energy sector expansion across Southeastern Europe.
