A Wall Street Journal investigation raises concerns over US Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle's role in facilitating a $6 billion Albanian gas deal involving lobbyist Christos Marafatsos.

A Wall Street Journal investigation has raised questions regarding the actions of US Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle and lobbyist Christos Marafatsos in advancing energy transactions across Southeastern Europe.

According to reports, Guilfoyle met with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama in Tirana in March 2026, accompanied by Marafatsos and corporate representatives. One month after the meeting, Greek infrastructure firm Aktor secured a $6 billion agreement to supply natural gas to Albania. The investigation highlights concerns over Marafatsos' dual role as a close advisor to the ambassador while concurrently lobbying for private commercial entities in the regional energy sector.
