Spanish emergency crews battle massive wildfires that have burnt 77,000 hectares and displaced 90,000 people across four provinces.

Wildfires across four Spanish provinces have devastated approximately 77,000 hectares and displaced or confined around 90,000 people. Although blazes impacting Madrid, Ávila, and Toledo show signs of improvement, a severe fire in La Vall d'Uixó, Castellón, remains uncontrolled after scorching 6,500 hectares.

The disaster has disrupted vital infrastructure, including regional communication networks and mobile systems. Civil Guard officers on the front lines reported feeling overwhelmed by the unprecedented scale of the evacuations. In response, authorities established a unified command to manage threats where multiple fires risked merging.

Visiting affected areas in Castellón, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez called for a binding national pact against climate change. Meanwhile, emergency facilities like Ávila's Police Academy have sheltered thousands of evacuees.
