West Bank tensions rise following deadly clashes and settler attacks
Escalating violence and settler attacks in the West Bank draw military warnings of anarchy, while Israel transfers 60 Palestinian detainees to Gaza.
Escalating violence in the occupied West Bank has led to heightened security measures and warnings from military officials. Following clashes near Nablus that left four Palestinians and two Israeli soldiers dead, Israeli forces blockaded access to Nablus and detained dozens of Palestinians. Radical Israeli settlers subsequently raided several villages, setting fire to two mosques, a residence, and multiple vehicles, while injuring workers near Ramallah.
Former Israeli Major General Giora Eiland described the unfolding situation as "anarchy," while military commanders warned of a potential widespread uprising. Italian reporting highlighted domestic political dynamics, suggesting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is catering to extremist voters ahead of elections despite military concerns.
Separately, Israeli authorities released 60 Palestinian detainees into the Gaza Strip through the Kerem Shalom crossing. Facilitated by the International Committee of the Red Cross, the group was transported to Nasser Hospital.
