Wildfires in Spain have scorched over 77,000 hectares and displaced nearly 90,000 people across four provinces, marking a historic emergency.

Spain continues to fight widespread forest fires that have devastated approximately 77,000 hectares across four provinces. The largest blaze, originating in Burgohondo, Ávila, was triggered by an eight-ton hydraulic excavator and has burned over 50,000 hectares alone.

Emergency services report that nearly 90,000 people have faced forced evacuations or confinement orders, with facilities like Ávila's Police Academy sheltering displaced residents. While firefighting operations show slight signs of stabilization around Ávila, Madrid, and Toledo, officials established a unified command to prevent distinct fire fronts from merging. Meanwhile, the blaze in La Vall d'Uixó remains out of control.

In response to the crisis, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez renewed calls for a national cross-party pact against climate change.
