Twenty-five US states sue Trump administration over new import tariffs

A coalition of 25 Democratic-led US states has filed a legal challenge against President Donald Trump's administration regarding recently imposed import tariffs targeting 60 trading partners, including the European Union.

Coordinated by the office of Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield, the lawsuit disputes duties ranging from 10% to 12.5% introduced on July 24. While the White House justified the measures as an effort to combat forced labor in global supply chains, the plaintiff states contested this reasoning in court filings, asserting that "there is no factual connection between the alleged problem of forced labor in international supply chains and the blanket global tariffs."

The legal action requests that a federal court declare the tariffs an improper use of executive power, issue an immediate injunction against their enforcement, and mandate full reimbursement for impacted importers.
