Twenty-five US states have sued the Trump administration over newly imposed import tariffs on 60 trading partners, asking a federal court to block the duties and mandate refunds.

A coalition of 25 US states, led by Democratic officials, has filed a legal challenge against President Donald Trump's administration over newly imposed tariffs affecting 60 international trading partners, including the European Union.

The lawsuit, announced on Monday by Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield's office, challenges duties of 10% to 12.5% introduced on July 24. The administration justified the measures as a response to global forced labor in supply chains. However, plaintiffs contend the executive branch exceeded its authority, asserting there is "no factual connection between the alleged problem of forced labor in international supply chains and sweeping global tariffs."

The state officials are asking a federal court to declare the duties unlawful, halt their enforcement, and order full refunds for importers who have already paid the tariffs.
