Spanish emergency services report partial containment of massive wildfires in central Spain after blazes scorched 77,000 hectares and displaced thousands.

Emergency crews in Spain are working to secure perimeters after wildfires burned an estimated 77,000 hectares nationwide. Military officials reported that the massive blaze spanning Madrid and Ávila has been largely contained, though active fire heads remain a threat. Unified command units were established as multiple blazes threatened to merge, overwhelming local emergency personnel.

The disasters have affected nearly 90,000 people through evacuations or confinement orders. Over 61,000 residents across 23 municipalities in Madrid and Ávila were displaced, with emergency shelters such as the Ávila Police Academy housing thousands. Meanwhile, an uncontrolled wildfire in La Vall d'Uixó in eastern Spain has burned 6,500 hectares, forcing 16,000 evacuations and confining 64,000 citizens.
