Spain’s Military Emergencies Unit reports that wildfires across Madrid and Ávila are largely contained, though active fronts remain after burning nearly 20,000 hectares.

Spain’s Military Emergencies Unit reported that wildfires burning across western Madrid and eastern Ávila are now largely contained, although active fronts persist. The combined blazes have scorched nearly 20,000 hectares of forest and forced the evacuation of over 61,000 residents across 23 municipalities.

Spanish authorities established a unified command center to manage response efforts as concerns grew over separate fire fronts merging. Displaced residents continue to occupy temporary shelters, including facilities in Móstoles and Ávila’s national police academy. First responders described being overwhelmed by the disaster's scale, while evacuees report severe anxiety regarding when they can safely return to their homes. Emergency teams remain deployed to secure uncontained active perimeters.
