European defense leaders met in Sarajevo to discuss uncrewed airspace threats, naval AI integration, and Bosnia and Herzegovina's defense manufacturing expansion.

Military officials, diplomats, and defense experts gathered in Sarajevo for the fourth Sarajevo Security Conference to address rising security challenges across Europe. Major General Karsten Stoye of EUROCONTROL highlighted low-altitude uncrewed aerial vehicles as the primary new threat to European airspace management over the next five years. Concurrently, NATO Rear Admiral Van Zanten emphasized the growing necessity of integrating artificial intelligence and uncrewed vessels into naval operations to confront evolving maritime threats, including shadow fleets.

Alongside the conference, Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina officials showcased regional manufacturing capabilities at the "First Balkan Shield 2026" defense exhibition. Government leaders announced plans to build two new production plants aimed at expanding export capacity and strengthening domestic security readiness.
