Russian missile strike on Kyiv kills 17 as Ukraine requests air defenses

At least 17 people were killed and up to 44 injured in intensive overnight Russian missile strikes targeting the Kyiv region. Ukrainian authorities reported that air defense systems failed to intercept any incoming missiles during an hour-long aerial alert that damaged residential zones and warehouses across seven locations.

In response, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reiterated calls for Western allies to supply additional ballistic missile interceptors, arguing such systems "could have saved lives." While Moscow claimed its forces struck military targets, Kyiv accused Russia of deliberately attacking civilian infrastructure.

Separately, Portuguese drone manufacturer Tekever addressed reports by Russian state media concerning the alleged capture of one of its reconnaissance drones in Ukraine. The company declined to comment on specific client operations, maintaining that continuous technological updates minimize operational risks from captured hardware.
