Russia and Ukraine exchange heavy overnight strikes across borders
Russian forces targeted Ukrainian cities in a major overnight attack, while Ukrainian drones struck targets near Moscow as fighting escalates.
Russian forces launched a widespread overnight missile and drone attack across Ukraine, striking major cities including Kyiv, Lviv, and Dnipropetrovsk. Ukrainian media reported at least eight deaths and more than a dozen injuries, with a residential building in Kryvyi Rih suffering direct damage. Due to the proximity of the strikes to NATO borders, neighboring Poland scrambled fighter jets to safeguard its airspace.
Prior to the bombardment, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged citizens to seek shelter and appealed to international partners for additional air defense systems to protect civilian lives.
Simultaneously, Ukrainian forces targeted Russian territory with long-range drones. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin stated that air defense units intercepted over 390 drones directed at the capital. Meanwhile, Ukrainian outlets reported a drone strike on an industrial steel plant in the Moscow region.
