Russian cruise missiles target western Ukraine as air defenses engage targets in Lviv
Russian cruise missiles reached western Ukraine as air defenses activated in Lviv, while Ukrainian forces struck Russian energy facilities deep behind front lines.
Russian forces launched a widespread wave of aerial attacks across Ukraine, extending strikes to western regions where air defense systems engaged incoming cruise missiles over Lviv. Explosions were reported in Lviv following nationwide alerts triggered by Russian ballistic strikes targeting Kyiv, Dnipro, and Vinnytsia. The attacks occurred shortly after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that military intelligence indicated a high probability of a major imminent bombardment.
Simultaneously, active front-line combat intensified, with Ukraine's General Staff recording 191 engagements within 24 hours, heavily concentrated in the Pokrovsk and Kostiantynivka sectors. In counter-operations, Ukrainian forces carried out long-range strikes on Russian energy and logistics infrastructure, hitting an export terminal in the Rostov region roughly 250 kilometers from the front line, alongside oil facilities in Yaroslavl and Udmurtia.
