Poland and Baltic allies advance military transport and aviation projects
Poland explores Airbus A400M transport acquisitions and partners with Boeing on Apache servicing, while Latvia evaluates Embraer A-29 Super Tucanos for anti-drone defense.
Poland and regional NATO allies are advancing several military aviation modernization initiatives. Polish Deputy Defense Minister Paweł Zalewski confirmed Warsaw's interest in acquiring Airbus A400M Atlas transport aircraft to replace aging C-130 Hercules platforms, potentially utilizing European Union defense funding mechanisms. Poland recently signed a letter of intent alongside Belgium, Croatia, France, Spain, Turkey, and the United Kingdom to cooperate on A400M fleet operations.
In domestic industrial sustainment, Polish state enterprise WZL-1 signed an agreement with Boeing to establish a regional maintenance center in Łódź capable of servicing at least 96 AH-64E Apache attack helicopters.
Meanwhile, Latvia is evaluating the acquisition of Brazilian Embraer A-29 Super Tucano turboprops to counter drone threats and hybrid airspace incursions, a platform also under evaluation by Polish planners.
