Malta's opposition warns power cuts are damaging tourism industry

Malta's opposition Nationalist Party has warned that recurring power outages are harming tourism, while environmentalists call for climate-resilient infrastructure.
Malta's opposition Nationalist Party (PN) has warned that ongoing power outages are causing significant damage to the national tourism industry, challenging government claims of prioritizing quality tourism over volume. In response to the blackouts, the party requested an urgent parliamentary discussion on the National Audit Office report regarding the 2023 power crisis.
Concurrently, environmental organization Flimkien għal Ambjent Aħjar emphasized that the repeated power failures underscore an urgent need to adopt climate-resilient building standards across the island.
In separate court proceedings, a Maltese court acquitted two men facing contraband charges. Meanwhile, extreme weather forced over 200,000 people to evacuate raging wildfires in France and Spain.
