Malta's opposition and environmental group criticize handling of power cuts

Malta's Nationalist Party and environmental group FAA warn that ongoing power outages harm tourism and highlight the need for climate-resilient buildings.
Malta's opposition Nationalist Party (PN) and environmental organization Flimkien għal Ambjent Aħjar (FAA) have expressed strong concern regarding ongoing electricity blackouts across the country.
The PN asserted that the persistent power disruptions are actively harming Malta's tourism industry. According to the party, the frequent grid failures undermine official efforts by the government and the Malta Tourism Authority to shift the sector toward higher quality standards.
Separately, the environmental NGO FAA stressed that the power cuts highlight an urgent need to construct climate-resilient buildings. The group stated that modern construction standards must better adapt to extreme heat to help prevent excessive demand and strain on the national power grid.
