French President Emmanuel Macron has convened a crisis meeting as severe wildfires continue to spread near Bordeaux, driving hundreds of thousands from their homes.

French President Emmanuel Macron has called a crisis meeting as uncontained wildfires continue to threaten the Bordeaux region, forcing over 325,000 evacuations across France and Spain.

Firefighters face severe conditions fueled by extreme heat and erratic winds generated by massive pyrocumulonimbus clouds. In France's Gironde department alone, blazes have consumed more than 42,000 hectares and displaced at least 220,000 residents. Key transport links, including the Bordeaux-Biarritz railway, remain closed, while stage routes for the Tour de France have been shortened.

Concurrently, prosecutors in the Var department are investigating multiple suspected arson cases after several fires broke out almost simultaneously.
