International Criminal Court member states have voted to dismiss Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan following sexual misconduct allegations, marking a historic first for the tribunal.

Member states of the International Criminal Court have voted to dismiss Lead Prosecutor Karim Khan following a governing assembly decision in New York. The vote marks the first time in the tribunal's history that a chief prosecutor has been removed from office. Out of 125 member nations, 82 supported the resolution for his dismissal, while 13 voted against and 15 abstained.

The decision follows an investigation into allegations of sexual harassment and misconduct involving a staff member. The assembly concluded that Khan committed a "serious breach of duty and serious misconduct." Khan, who had voluntarily stepped aside while the probe was conducted, has consistently denied all accusations. His removal concludes a two-year period of internal scrutiny that has heavily weighed on the institution.
