Member states vote to remove ICC chief prosecutor Karim Khan over misconduct allegations

ICC member states have voted in New York to permanently remove chief prosecutor Karim Khan following allegations of sexual misconduct.
Member states of the International Criminal Court (ICC) have voted to permanently remove chief prosecutor Karim Khan following an internal inquiry into allegations of sexual misconduct.
During an emergency session held at the United Nations headquarters in New York, representatives from 82 of the court's 125 member nations voted in favor of his dismissal after closed-door negotiations.
The decision follows a suspension issued last month after the court's governing body concluded that the 56-year-old British lawyer committed a "serious breach of duty and serious misconduct" regarding a female colleague. Allegations against Khan, who assumed office in 2021, first emerged in 2024. He has consistently denied all accusations throughout the process.
