Severe human rights crises persist in Afghanistan and Iran as the United Nations delivers international aid convoys across the Pakistani border.

Five years after the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan, human rights conditions have severely deteriorated, with women facing systemic oppression. An investigation into 231 femicide cases highlighted widespread impunity for perpetrators following the 2023 dissolution of the attorney general's office, which previously tracked such offenses. Along with sweeping bans on female employment and movement, roughly 40 percent of the population requires urgent humanitarian relief. To mitigate the crisis, the United Nations confirmed that an international convoy of over 700 trucks carrying food and vital supplies arrived via Pakistan.

Concurrently, human rights monitors reported the execution of 24-year-old Marzieh Neyri in Iran after she defended herself against sexual assault, underscoring strict evidentiary hurdles confronting female victims under the country's retribution statutes.
