Police in Berlin have shot and killed the suspect of a vehicle attack at the city's Pride parade that left one woman dead and 16 people injured.

German authorities have confirmed that police shot and killed 21-year-old Abdul Ballout, the primary suspect in a fatal vehicle attack at Berlin's Christopher Street Day parade. Ballout, a German citizen of Lebanese descent, was located in the Spandau borough following an extensive manhunt and was shot after charging at officers with a knife.

The incident occurred on Saturday evening near Tiergarten park, when a white van was driven into a crowd of parade participants, killing one woman and injuring 16 others. German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt characterized the event as a suspected "Islamist attack." Federal and local law enforcement agencies are continuing to investigate Ballout's background and potential ties to extremist networks.
