France's Constitutional Council has validated new assisted dying legislation with conditions while striking down a proposed social media ban for under-15s.

France's Constitutional Council has validated the country's landmark end-of-life legislation while striking down a proposed social media ban for minors under 15.

In its ruling, the court upheld the assisted dying law, declaring that defining end-of-life parameters falls within parliamentary authority. However, magistrates established three interpretation reserves, notably protecting conscience clause rights for private and religious healthcare institutions. President Emmanuel Macron praised the ruling, framing it as the culmination of an "exemplary democratic debate."

Conversely, the Council invalidated the core provision of a separate bill attempting to restrict social media access for children under 15, ruling that a broad ban excessively restricts personal liberty. The court also validated provisions within an emergency agricultural law.
