France's Constitutional Council has validated landmark assisted dying legislation while rejecting a general social media ban for minors under 15.

France’s Constitutional Council has validated legislation establishing a right to assisted dying while striking down a proposed social media ban for children under 15.

In its ruling, the high court confirmed that the end-of-life bill complies with the constitution, introducing three interpretative reservations. Among these, the judges upheld an institutional conscience clause, permitting private and religious healthcare facilities to refuse to perform assisted dying procedures. French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed the decision, stating that it "completes an exemplary democratic debate."

However, the Council invalidated the core provision of a separate digital safety law that sought to restrict social media access for minors under 15. Magistrates concluded that the general prohibition imposed an excessive restriction on personal liberties, rendering the primary objective of the legislation void.
