Tehran threatens regional neighbors over U.S. economic sanctions
Iran warns neighboring states against aiding U.S. economic measures as hardliners maintain their blockade in the Strait of Hormuz.
Tensions between the United States and Iran escalated further as Tehran threatened regional neighbors against participating in upcoming American economic measures. Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, warned that Tehran would target the interests of any neighboring countries assisting Washington's economic actions.
The warning followed an announcement by U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent regarding forthcoming financial sanctions against Iran. Meanwhile, Iranian military sources dismissed Washington's assertions that recent airstrikes on Larak Island prevented Iranian forces from laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz, calling the American account "pure fantasy."
Iranian hardliners continue to maintain a naval blockade in the strategic waterway, demanding full implementation of a 14-point memorandum agreed upon in June, including sanctions relief and the unfreezing of Iranian assets.
