France faces its worst wildfire season on record, with over 116,000 hectares burned while fires near Bordeaux threaten critical military manufacturing infrastructure.

France is experiencing its worst wildfire season on record, with more than 116,000 hectares destroyed across over 13,000 fires since the start of the year, according to European Forest Fire Information System data. The burned area far surpasses the country's previous record of 66,300 hectares set in July 2022.

The situation remains critical in southwestern France, where rapidly expanding blazes west of Bordeaux threaten major national defense infrastructure. Emergency crews are working to contain fires nearing an ArianeGroup facility producing ballistic missile propulsion components, Dassault Aviation’s final assembly line for Rafale fighter jets, and an MBDA plant manufacturing solid-fuel rocket motors. Firefighters continue operations to safeguard these strategic industrial installations as hazardous conditions persist.
