Wildfires rage in Turkey as France faces record fire season

Firefighters in Turkey and France battle severe blazes, as France faces a record fire season threatening key defense facilities.
Firefighters across Southern and Western Europe continue to battle severe blazes, with fresh wildfires breaking out in Turkey while France contends with its worst fire season on record.
In Turkey, emergency crews are responding to forest and scrub fires across the provinces of Muğla, Antalya, and İzmir. Operations involving both aerial and ground forces are ongoing to suppress flames in districts including Fethiye, Alanya, and Dikili.
Meanwhile, data from the European Forest Fire Information System indicates France has experienced over 13,000 blazes burning 116,000 hectares this year, surpassing its previous record set in 2022. Fires west of Bordeaux threaten major defense installations producing Rafale fighter jets, missile components, and rocket motors, while authorities have detained four individuals on suspicion of looting in fire-affected areas.
