Wildfires in Spain and France continue to spread, forcing over 140,000 evacuations as Spanish authorities declare a national emergency near Madrid.

Emergency personnel in Spain and France are struggling to contain rapidly expanding wildfires that have forced over 140,000 people to evacuate across both nations. West of Madrid, three blazes merged into a single 6,000-hectare front advancing toward Navas del Rey, prompting Spanish officials to warn that the fire has surpassed containment capacity. Regional leaders labeled the situation the worst in the area's history, while the national government declared its first-ever wildfire emergency.

In southwestern France, more than 65,000 residents have fled along the Atlantic coast, particularly near Bordeaux and Arcachon Bay. With one fire growing to the size of Paris, authorities deployed maritime vessels to assist in evacuations as emergency services remain under extreme pressure.
