A fourth summer heatwave across Europe brings record temperatures, high mortality figures, and red alerts in major Italian cities.

Extreme weather conditions continue across Europe as a fourth summer heatwave brings severe temperatures, health warnings, and heightened mortality figures.

In Italy, health authorities issued red alerts for all 27 major cities, including Messina and Reggio Calabria, as temperatures approached 40 degrees Celsius. Officials urged residents to avoid direct sunlight during peak hours, remain hydrated, and take protective measures. At least four heat-related deaths were reported recently in the country.

Meanwhile, Austria logged a historic national high of 40.8 degrees Celsius in a suburb of Vienna. In France, health officials recorded over 7,300 excess deaths between May and July following 52 days of heatwave conditions. Western European nations, including the United Kingdom and France, are bracing for additional temperature spikes alongside ongoing concerns over severe drought and wildfire risks.
