A fourth heatwave sweeps across Europe, bringing record-breaking temperatures of over 40 degrees Celsius, red alerts in Italy, and thousands of excess deaths in France.

Western and Southern Europe are facing severe weather conditions as a fourth heatwave delivers temperatures reaching up to 40 degrees Celsius. Italian health authorities issued red weather alerts across 27 major cities, including Messina and Reggio Calabria, advising residents to avoid outdoor activity during peak daylight hours.

In Austria, a national temperature record was established near Vienna at 40.8 degrees Celsius. French public health officials reported over 7,300 excess deaths associated with 52 heatwave days recorded since mid-June. The prolonged heat continues to heighten wildfire risks and drought conditions across the continent, following reports that multiple regions recorded their hottest July on record.
