Donald Trump insists Ukraine energy ceasefire stands despite denials from Kyiv

US President Donald Trump claims Russia and Ukraine agreed to an energy ceasefire, despite Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky denying knowledge of any deal.
US President Donald Trump has defended his announcement of an energy infrastructure ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, despite statements from both nations denying any formal agreement. Speaking to reporters, Trump asserted that both sides accepted the truce because he declared it, following reports that officials in Kyiv and Moscow were unaware of the arrangement. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the announcement as "news to me" in an interview with Axios. The exchange follows recent Russian bombardments targeting Ukrainian energy facilities, which Ukrainian leadership characterized as a contradiction to the claims. Neither party has officially confirmed a bilateral agreement to halt attacks on energy grids.
