The casualty count from overnight Russian ballistic missile attacks on Kyiv has risen to at least nine dead, including four children, according to updated reports. Initial figures released by Mayor Vitali Klitschko placed the death toll at three with 15 injured, but subsequent reporting indicates at least 28 people sustained injuries.
Witnesses reported hearing more than ten explosions across the Ukrainian capital during the barrage. Falling debris inflicted severe structural damage on a five-story residential building in the city's Solomjanskyi district, trapping residents inside and sparking fires in the surrounding courtyard.
Municipal and national authorities noted that Ukrainian air defense forces operate under severe constraints when attempting to intercept ballistic weaponry. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that international partners remain aware of the specific technical assistance required to bolster the nation's air defenses.
