Kyiv death toll reaches nine following Russian ballistic missile barrage

At least nine people, including four children, have been killed following Russian ballistic missile strikes on Kyiv, as officials call for air defense aid.
Overnight Russian ballistic missile strikes on Kyiv have killed at least nine people, including four children, and injured 28 others, according to city officials. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that 17 of the injured required hospitalization following the attack, which began around 1:33 a.m. local time.
Witnesses reported hearing more than a dozen explosions as missiles struck multiple city districts. Falling debris damaged a residential building in the Solomjanskyi district, trapping several occupants and igniting fires in surrounding areas.
Local authorities emphasized that Ukrainian air defense forces face severe technical limitations against incoming ballistic weaponry. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that international partners remain fully aware of the technical assistance required to enhance the nation's air defense network.
