A recount error in Berlin's Spandau district transferred a direct mandate to the AfD, shrinking the parliament by five seats amid shifting youth and migrant voter dynamics.

An administrative vote transmission error in a Spandau constituency has shifted a direct mandate in the Berlin state parliament election from Bettina Meißner of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) to Tommy Tabor of the Alternative for Germany (AfD). The official recalculation of overhang seats resulted in shrinking the state legislature by five seats overall.

The technical correction comes alongside broader political shifts across the capital. Polling ahead of the vote placed Die Linke in the lead at 22 percent, driven largely by strong support among younger residents. Meanwhile, overall participation remains lower among citizens with a migration background. However, recent reporting highlights an emerging interest in the AfD among some young Berliners of Turkish origin who express concern over crime, public order, and economic instability.
