Berlin Pride attack suspect killed by police in Spandau
German police have killed the suspect in the Berlin Pride vehicle attack following a manhunt in the Spandau district.
German police have shot and killed 21-year-old Abdul Ballout, the primary suspect in a vehicle attack at Berlin's Christopher Street Day parade.
Authorities launched a citywide manhunt after a white van rammed into parade attendees near Tiergarten park on Saturday evening, killing one woman and injuring 16 others. Officers located Ballout in the western borough of Spandau, where police opened fire after he reportedly charged at them armed with a knife.
German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt characterized the incident as an "Islamist attack" as federal and local investigators continue to examine the suspect's background and potential ties to extremist networks.
