Berlin police shoot dead suspect after Pride parade vehicle attack
German police have shot dead suspect Abdul Ballout in Berlin following a vehicle ramming at a Pride event that killed one person and injured 16.
German authorities have killed the suspect involved in a fatal vehicle attack during Berlin's Christopher Street Day parade. Police shot 21-year-old German national Abdul Ballout in the western district of Spandau after he allegedly confronted officers with a knife during a citywide manhunt.
The fatal incident occurred late Saturday when a white van drove into a crowd near Tiergarten park, leaving one woman dead and 16 other people injured. German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt stated that initial evidence points toward an "Islamist attack." Federal and local authorities are investigating Ballout's background and potential extremist links to establish a clear motive.
