A vote count correction in Spandau handed an AfD candidate a direct mandate over the CDU, reducing Berlin's state parliament by five seats amid changing voter trends.

A transmission error during vote counting in Spandau has altered the outcome of Berlin's state election, granting a direct mandate to Tommy Tabor of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) instead of the Christian Democratic Union's (CDU) Bettina Meißner. The correction recalibrated overhang seats, reducing the state parliament's overall size by five seats.

The electoral shift comes amid broader demographic and political dynamics in the capital. Polling showed Die Linke leading with 22 percent, significantly buoyed by strong support among young voters attracted to its social policies. Meanwhile, reports highlighted contrasting trends among minority groups, including interest in the AfD among some young citizens of Turkish origin alongside lower overall voter turnout among residents with a migration background.
