Political science scholar Alpo Rusi outlines Soviet intelligence threats against former Finnish Prime Minister Keijo Liinamaa in a new analysis.

Political science scholar Alpo Rusi has provided further details regarding Soviet intelligence operations in Finland during the late Cold War. Writing in an op-ed for Iltalehti, Rusi detailed foreign pressure and threats directed at former Prime Minister and National Conciliator Keijo Liinamaa prior to his death in 1980.

According to the analysis, Soviet intelligence services actively sought to manipulate Finnish political dynamics and shape the presidential succession during the final years of President Urho Kekkonen's leadership. The report highlights how Moscow deployed covert tactics, including personal threats against key political figures, to preserve its strategic leverage in Helsinki during critical political transitions.
