US-Ukraine Patriot missile co-production deal unlikely before winter, envoy says
The US is unlikely to finalize a deal with Ukraine on co-producing Patriot interceptor missiles before winter, according to NATO Representative Matthew Whitaker.
Washington is unlikely to seal a long-term deal with Kyiv on the co-production of Patriot air defense interceptors before this winter, according to US Permanent Representative to NATO Matthew Whitaker.
Speaking in an interview with Fox News, Whitaker noted that restrictions surrounding sensitive Patriot technology prevent a swift agreement on manufacturing rights. However, he emphasized that the United States continues to work with Ukraine and European allies on joint production initiatives for other air defense hardware.
Kyiv has consistently sought to expand joint defense manufacturing with Western partners to bolster its domestic capabilities and safeguard crucial infrastructure against potential Russian airstrikes during the winter months. Despite the delay regarding Patriot technology, US officials affirmed that broader defense collaboration with Ukraine and European partners remains active.
