US Supreme Court temporarily allows White House ballroom construction to proceed

The United States Supreme Court has granted a temporary stay permitting construction to continue on a proposed $400 million ballroom at the White House complex. Chief Justice John Roberts issued an administrative directive pausing a lower court injunction that had previously halted major elements of the development.

The temporary ruling gives the high court additional time to deliberate on an emergency appeal submitted by President Donald Trump's administration. Construction had been suspended following legal action brought by a historic preservation organization aimed at safeguarding heritage grounds. Under the current order, preliminary work on the executive site may move forward while the justices consider whether to grant a formal stay pending full judicial review.
