The US Supreme Court has temporarily lifted a lower court injunction, allowing construction on a $400 million White House ballroom to resume while legal challenges continue.

The US Supreme Court has issued an interim order permitting construction to continue on a planned $400 million ballroom on the White House grounds. The ruling by Chief Justice John Roberts temporarily freezes an injunction from a lower court that had halted the project following a challenge by historic preservation groups.

The emergency measure gives the high court additional time to deliberate on the administration's formal request to keep work underway while the broader legal dispute proceeds. The White House has previously argued that the facility constitutes an essential element of the executive complex's security infrastructure.

Simultaneously, the administration faces a separate legal setback after a federal judge blocked proposed regulations aimed at tightening restrictions on mail-in voting ahead of the upcoming congressional elections, a matter also expected to reach the Supreme Court.
