A 34-year-old woman was arrested in Los Angeles for allegedly spying on the son of Taiwan's president on behalf of the Chinese government.

United States federal authorities have arrested a 34-year-old woman accused of acting as an unregistered agent for the Chinese government. Wanying Zhang was taken into custody by the FBI at Los Angeles International Airport while attempting to board a flight to China.

According to U.S. officials, Zhang allegedly tracked the son of Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te during his visit to Seattle last year, capturing photographs and transmitting details to Chinese authorities. The case underscores persistent intelligence friction between Washington and Beijing over Taiwan.
