The US has imposed sanctions on the International Criminal Court following the award of the Nobel Peace Prize to former judge Navi Pillay, triggering widespread European criticism.

United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio has announced sanctions against the International Criminal Court (ICC), halting transactions with the tribunal following a six-month grace period. The measure was unveiled shortly after former ICC judge and South African jurist Navanethem "Navi" Pillay was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

US officials labeled the court a threat, prompting swift condemnation from international leaders. European Union officials expressed regret over the decision, while foreign ministers from nations including Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom issued a joint statement reaffirming their confidence in the tribunal. Conversely, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed the US announcement and commended Washington's stance.
