EU and China reach agreement on hybrid vehicle trade amid tariff tensions
The EU and China have agreed on rules for hybrid vehicle exports, easing trade tensions following talks in Beijing.
The European Union and China have reached an agreement regarding the export of hybrid vehicles following high-level negotiations in Beijing between EU Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič and Chinese officials. According to a joint statement, the accord complies with World Trade Organization rules and involves price commitments from manufacturers.
The resolution comes amidst broader commercial friction, as European leaders push for stronger trade defense mechanisms. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and French President Emmanuel Macron recently called for accelerated EU action to counter unfair foreign trade practices. While the deal temporarily defuses potential retaliatory measures, broader concerns over subsidies and supply chain dependencies remain unresolved.
