Ukrainian lawmakers prepare to vote on a new defence minister while incoming army chief Mykhailo Drapatyj initiates a major overhaul of military command.

Ukrainian lawmakers are set to vote on President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's nomination of former intelligence chief Yevhen Khmara as defence minister, alongside the confirmation of Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha. The parliamentary vote follows the dismissal of former defence minister Mykhailo Fedorov, whose removal sparked domestic debate.

Following his exit, Fedorov publicly called for wartime elections, citing concerns over corruption and governance challenges within military and state structures. Meanwhile, newly appointed commander-in-chief Mykhailo Drapatyj has initiated widespread organizational changes across senior military ranks. Drapatyj's reforms aim to dismantle established patronage networks and modernise command procedures across front-line units as Kyiv reorganises its defence leadership amid the ongoing conflict.
