Russian air strikes kill at least 17 in Kyiv as Ukrainian counter-strikes hit Russian regions, prompting Moscow to bolster its air defense network.

Recent Russian strikes across Ukraine, including a heavy raid on Kyiv and glide bomb attacks on Zaporizhzhia, left at least 17 people dead and dozens wounded. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that additional air defense systems would have saved lives, while noting that Russia relocated anti-aircraft equipment to construct three defensive rings around Moscow and Saint Petersburg.

Concurrently, Ukrainian drone and missile strikes hit several Russian locations, including Moscow’s outskirts, Belgorod, and Crimea, causing multiple casualties. Meanwhile, former U.S. President Donald Trump urged caution regarding defense technology transfers to Kyiv. At sea, an Italian naval vessel intercepted a Russian shadow fleet oil tanker near Pantelleria.

Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine will not voluntarily withdraw from the Donbas, citing expectations of post-war U.S. security guarantees.
