Ukraine is developing indigenous ballistic missiles and precision-guided glide bomb kits to mitigate shortages of Western air defense systems amid ongoing Russian attacks.

Ukraine is accelerating domestic defense manufacturing to counter escalating Russian ballistic missile strikes as Western supply shortages persist. President Volodymyr Zelensky acknowledged that obtaining U.S. licensing and establishing local production for Patriot air defense systems will take up to several years, prolonging Kyiv's vulnerability to aerial attacks.

To bridge this operational gap, two Ukrainian defense contractors are actively developing indigenous long-range ballistic missiles. Concurrently, the military is procuring the newly tested "Equalizer" precision-guidance kit. Developed by DG Industry and state defense accelerator Brave1, the system converts unguided Soviet-era aerial bombs into standoff precision glide munitions. Compatible with Ukraine's existing Soviet-designed fighters and potential Western aircraft, the technology aims to reduce reliance on foreign weapons imports.
