Over 1.6 million people have been evacuated in eastern China as Typhoon Dolphin brings record rainfall, severe flooding, and major transport disruptions.

Eastern China was struck by Typhoon Dolphin on Sunday, triggering mass evacuations of over 1.6 million residents across coastal areas, including Shanghai, Zhejiang, and Fujian. Chinese meteorological authorities issued a red alert—the highest warning level—as the tropical cyclone brought fierce winds and heavy rainfall to the region.

In Shanghai, accumulated rainfall reached 312.9 millimeters within 24 hours, registering the highest level recorded in more than 150 years. Transport networks faced severe disruptions, with over 1,000 flights canceled at Shanghai's primary airport hubs. The storm previously passed near Okinawa, Japan, before moving westward across the Chinese coast, where local emergency services warned of continued risks from flooding and landslides.
