Typhoon Dolphin forced over one million evacuations and cancelled hundreds of flights in eastern China before weakening as it moved inland.

Typhoon Dolphin has struck eastern China, making landfall as the strongest tropical cyclone to hit the country this year after passing near Okinawa, Japan. The storm forced the evacuation of over one million people across coastal regions and triggered the highest level of meteorological alerts.

Air travel was severely disrupted, with reports indicating between 900 and nearly 1,400 flights canceled at Shanghai’s Pudong and Hongqiao airports. Although the typhoon has begun to weaken as it advances toward central and northern China, emergency measures remain in place. Local authorities warned of ongoing threats from heavy rainfall, widespread flooding, and potential landslides.
